My
love for drawing since childhood and my background as a graphic
designer play an important role in directing my art. The designer
in me leads me to create linocuts for more simple, high contrast
imagery and the child in me loves to doodle the details in the more
elaborate etchings and to color the monotypes.
Each
medium allows me to create images that reflect scenes of my own
memorable experiences of the Northwest - flowers in a field, fish
swimming upstream, a funky chair, or dogs at play. To me, each print
represents a very simple, pleasing moment in time.
With
each piece, I outline my subject, then revel in the exploration
of adding textures, features, colors, and distractions to breathe
life into the scene. This vitalization of the image adds an unplanned
element of fun to each piece and is one of the most enjoyable parts
of creating them.
I have
a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Moorhead State University
in Minnesota. I moved to Seattle from Minneapolis in 1992. I live
with my husband and dog in Magnolia and print at Sev
Shoon Arts Center, a printmaking studio in the BallardWorks
building.
Besides
art and design, I love dogs (and have a cool one), mountain biking,
travel, camping, hiking, and kayaking.
